Lake Naivasha is one Kenya’s leading farming areas and during colonial times, it attracted the first white settlers and became the playground for the aristocratic ‘Happy Valley crowd’. Lake Naivasha is a shallow fresh water lake, fringed by thick papyrus and surrounded by forests of the yellow barked acacia trees.
The lake waters draw a great range of game to these shores. At Crescent Island, giraffes wander among the acacia trees, buffalo in the swamps and Colobus monkeys call from the treetops while the lake’s large hippo populations sleep the day out in the shallow waters. Crescent Island is a haven for birds with over 200 species. It is here where a part of the movie Out of Africa was shot.
